Advocacy
Progress Associations and Council
While progress associations like the CWWPA are separate residents’ associations, owned and run by their members, they retain a strong relationship with the Ward Councillors and other elected Willoughby City Councillors and officers.
The association raises issues common to others in their Ward including environmental concerns, local traffic issues, planning and development and the provision of infrastructure such as parks, schools and other facilities.
State Advocacy
As the NSW State Government has increasingly taken over or delegated many aspects of former Council responsibilities, the CWWPA has also found cause to advocate on behalf of members at Planning Panels, before the Land and Environment Court, through local MPs and with various responsible Ministers.
Federation of Willoughby Progress Associations
When Willoughby City-wide issues are under discussion, the CWWPA often collaborates with other local progress associations through the Federation of Willoughby Progress Associations (FWPA).
There are nine other progress associations spread across the other Wards, although one or two are currently awaiting revival.
All nine progress associations in the city are eligible to be members of the Federation of Willoughby Progress Associations. This umbrella body discusses and acts on matters of general concern to the whole Willoughby community.
Key issues addressed in recent years include the development of local centres, traffic and transport, including the proposed Beaches Link tunnel, community engagement in local affairs and environmental conservation and management. You can find out more about the FWPA here.
